Why Carmel Welding?

As a 7-year-old, Bill Wiggam watched his dad open Carmel Welding and Supply, then on the extreme south border of a sleepy farming community. With an arc welder and a few donated blacksmith's tools, F. Keith Wiggam went to work mending farm equipment and sharpening plowshares for local folks. That was nearly 69 years ago, and is the oldest business in Carmel, is now under the ownership of Bill and his son, Bill Wiggam Jr. Even though the building has expanded over the years, it still remains at the original site at 550 South Rangeline Road. Rangeline Road has grown from a 2 lane gravel road to a five lane main artery through the city.

A lot has changed for the family since the first shingle was hung, though. The changing makeup of Hamilton County meant that Carmel Welding had to shift as well. The welding side of the business has evolved from blacksmithing to a full repair shop where most items made of metal can be welded and repaired. From farm and construction equipment to household items and lawn furniture, there's not much that can't be fixed by our skilled craftsmen. For do-it-yourself projects, we have added a large inventory of steel in all shapes and sizes, cut to your specifications.

The outdoor power equipment portion of our business began in the early 1950's when we became the first company in Indiana to sell the International Harvester Cub Cadet garden tractor. We expanded the IH lineup to include more tractors, grain trucks, farm and construction equipment, school buses, freezers, Scout trucks, and more. More choices of premium quality lawn equipment for the homeowner and small farmer were added over the years.

The 80's brought about a relatively new industry, the professional lawn and landscape company. We recognized and invested in the growth of this industry, expanded our staff, and brought on board major manufacturers of professional quality equipment such as Toro, STIHL, Grasshopper, and Dixie Chopper. We have grown to be one of Central Indiana's largest multi-line dealers of outdoor power equipment and related products.

Our highly trained service and support staff have, at their disposal, the most up to date information, tools, and, over a half million dollars in computerized parts inventory on the shelves to keep your valuable equipment running in top shape. Surrounded by the "Big Box" stores nearby, we have carved our niche in the community by offering personalized sales and service support, and offering premium equipment that is sure to keep your lawn looking its best. So when you are fed up with inferior equipment or the lack of service support you get from the "Big Boxes", come see the qualified staff at Carmel Welding. We'll make sure you're happy you did!
